Why this site exists
An independent UK mattress comparison site, run by three people.
Buying a mattress is a strange bit of shopping. You do it about once a decade, in a showroom where everything feels lovely for the ninety seconds you’re lying on it and nobody can tell you how it’ll feel in year four. The discount always seems to end on Sunday. Then you live with the thing for the next eight years.
BedBoy started in 2020 because that kept going badly for us and we’d run out of patience. The site pulls together more than 300 mattresses from Dreams, Bensons for Beds, Mattress Online, Eve and Furniture Village. It sets the specifications next to each other and adds up what owners said once the delivery van had gone.
Silentnight, Sealy, Sleepeezee, Hypnos, Tempur, Simba, Relyon, iGel. Anything that sells in volume over here is in the index somewhere. If it isn’t, that’s usually because nobody has reviewed it yet.
Every mattress gets the same ten marks out of five. Comfort, pressure relief, edge support, motion isolation, heat retention, durability, off-gassing, value, the retailer’s guarantee, and what owners made of it. Averaging those into a single BedBoy Score is handy for a first sweep, and it’s not much help after that.
The useful bit is nearly always one category rather than the total: whether the edge takes your weight when you sit down to put your socks on, or whether a foam your partner loves is going to cook you by two in the morning.
There are three of us doing the reading. We go through the spec sheet, the small print on delivery and returns, and the reviews, and whoever wrote the page puts their name at the top. It isn’t automated and we’re not a laboratory. We’re three people who’ve got quite good at noticing when a spec sheet is being economical. It isn’t glamorous work.
Affiliate commission pays for all of this. Click through and buy something and we take a cut, and it doesn’t cost you a penny more. The disclaimer spells out who pays us what.
What we’d rather you spent a minute on is the part that never makes it onto a product page. That means the delivery slot you’ll book time off for, what they’ll charge you to take the old one away, and the day your returns clock starts ticking, which is the day it arrives rather than the first night you sleep on it.
If you’d rather not read any of that, the quiz narrows it down in about a minute. Longer pieces on pillows, bedroom temperature and why you keep waking at four are over in Help & Advice.
